Volunteer to Help Skycroft

By Sharon Mager

MIDDLETOWN, Md. — Clayton Clark, the pastor of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Rohrersville, Maryland, is organizing a workday for Skycroft Conference Center, starting at 8 a.m. on Nov. 7.

A local arborist agreed to volunteer his time to bring a bucket truck and help trim and clear dead trees. Skycroft needs adult volunteers, 18 and older, to assist with the cleanup.  Clark explained that he doesn’t need chainsaw work, just folks who are willing to do manual labor and drag branches and clean debris.

Emily Reedy, the director of Skycroft Conference Center, said she appreciates the generosity of those who will give their time to help. She shared that an invasive pest is infecting Maryland’s ash trees and that many of the trees at Skycroft, some near buildings, are dead. The volunteer assistance would save thousands of dollars, she added

Though he expects the work to take most of the day, Clark said any help would be appreciated.

Those who assist must provide their own drinks and lunches, as well as work gloves and vision and hearing protection.

Volunteers will meet in the large parking lot near Gresham Hall.

Email Clark if you or your church can help, or for more information.
