Godparent Missions Ministry
New Song Bible Fellowship (NSBF) Lanham, has been ministering in Guyana for many years but stopped during COVID-19. Bernard Fuller, the senior pastor, traveled to the country last year, but a full mission team will once again visit this summer. Through the years, the church has hosted VBS, revivals, workshops for men, and other ministries, supporting a local church in Guyana.

A significant part of the ministry is an ongoing Guyana Godparent Ministry established in 2015 by the partnership of Dr. Doonauth Singh, former pastor of Goshen Baptist Church in Guyana, and Sister Barbara Davis. The mission of this ministry is to support the children in Guyana who attend the church on a regular basis, some even without their parents. Pleshette Johnson, director of the Godparent ministry, said, “Our vision is to use this ministry to not only pray and encourage our godchildren in their walk with Christ but also to support them financially.”

Johnson said that each godparent who has decided to support one or more children annually can send a donation monthly to their godchild if they so choose. They can stay connected with them via WhatsApp. “They pray for the child and send Birthday and Christmas cards. This is a yearly commitment that each godparent must agree to.”

The church also supports families through a shoe drive each March. Johnson said, “Our shoe drive happens annually to provide new black shoes to our godchildren for school and church. We send a barrel that is filled with shoes for each godchild on our list.”

The Godparent Ministry is just one of many missions outreaches of New Song Bible Fellowship Church. The church is in the midst of a missions conference, with various activities, including a missions workshop from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. on March 23. Check out last week’s “Our BCM/D Family” for more information about that and other mission conferences.

With only 50-60 volunteers, it’s going to be an “all-hands on deck” event, but they’re excited to see what God will do!
