Oak Grove Youth Girls Gather for Faith, Food and Fun
By Mary Frances Tracy
Churches around the world recently celebrated Easter, but the youth girls at Oak Grove Baptist Church began reflecting on the meaning of the season weeks earlier.
In late February, the girls gathered for the church’s third annual “Faith, Food and Fun” event—an intentional time of fellowship, engaging activities, and spiritual growth.
This year’s gathering focused on Easter and helping the girls understand how the foundation of the Christian faith—the death and resurrection of Jesus—applies to their everyday lives.
Through a Bible study, missions activity, and hands-on craft, leaders encouraged the girls to engage both their hearts and minds.
The Bible study walked through Holy Week, from Palm Sunday to Resurrection Sunday. The girls explored Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem (the day the Jews selected their Passover lambs), the Last Supper, Passover, Good Friday, and the significance of Easter morning.
Leaders also pointed to the many witnesses who saw Jesus after His resurrection, helping the girls consider the truth and impact of that event.
Finally, the group looked at how our past, present, and future are secured through Jesus and His resurrection. Because Jesus is God in the flesh, believers are justified through Him. Because He rose from the grave, He gives us resurrection power in our daily lives. Finally, His resurrection guarantees our future.
Following the study, the girls created Easter centerpieces to take home or share with others, reinforcing the message of the cross and the hope of the resurrection.
During their hands-on mission time, the girls served through Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child (OCC) at Oak Grove. They assembled more than 200 boxes for an upcoming packing party and packed approximately 50 shoebox gifts with age-appropriate items for children around the world. In 2025, Oak Grove packed more than 1,000 OCC boxes, and preparations are already underway for this year’s outreach.
The day ended with a time of fellowship over lunch. True to its name—“Faith, Food and Fun”—the event gave the girls an opportunity to celebrate Easter and the hope found in Jesus’ resurrection.
