An invitation from Dr. Kevin Smith, Executive Director of the Baptist Convention of Maryland/Delaware
Let me thank you for your faithful support of our cooperative ministry efforts! As your executive director, I appreciate your commitment to Southern Baptist work in Maryland, Delaware, and beyond.
I want to invite you to attend our annual meeting taking place this year at Kettering Baptist Church in Upper Marlboro, Md. I am praying that this year’s meeting will be special as we praise God for His work through our churches and approve plans for our future efforts. Most importantly, it will be an opportunity for Maryland/Delaware Baptists to pray together – earnestly calling out to God to do what only He can do. We value our planning, strategies, and efforts, but we all know that true revival and awakening is the work of Christ’s Spirit.
This year’s theme is Unity in Prayer – Seeking Christ’s Spirit. If we believe that the Spirit brings revival, then we must pursue unity, as brothers and sisters in Christ – for God will not use and bless a divided people. Please make a special effort to join us for a convention-wide time of prayer on Sunday night. Just as the early disciples prayed together, as they waited for power from on high (Acts 1:8), so we must pray together, in one accord, if we desire the Spirit to empower the Baptist Convention of Maryland/Delaware. This prayer gathering will, also, allow us to celebrate new church plants and their sending churches.
The annual meeting begins Sunday evening at 6:00 p.m. with worship led by the Nelons and a message from D.A. Horton followed by a time of prayer for church plants and their sending churches. On Monday morning, there will be breakout sessions from 8:00-9:15 a.m. at the Comfort Inn, Bowie, Maryland, 4500 Crain Highway, Bowie, Maryland 20716. The general session will begin at 10:00 a.m. at Kettering Baptist Church and will conclude at 8:00 p.m. Monday evening. Dr. Jarrett Stephens, Prestonwood Baptist Church, Texas, will be speaking, as well as Dr. Michael Trammell, President of the Baptist Convention of Maryland/Delaware. In the evening session, I will be speaking as well as Dr. Frank Page, President of the Executive Committee of the Southern Baptist Convention.
There will be a unity lunch for all messengers and guests at noon at Kettering Baptist Church. Dinners will be provided for various affinity groups including: all men (pastors/lay leaders), all women, Hispanics, Koreans, and the African American Fellowship
All sessions (except for Monday morning breakout sessions) will be held at Kettering Baptist Church, Upper Marlboro, Maryland. The breakout sessions will be held at the Comfort Inn, Bowie, Maryland.
On Sunday night, November 12, childcare (ages infants – 6yr olds) will be available at Kettering Baptist Church, 6909 Crain Highway, Upper Marlboro, MD 20772 by Kettering’s Kids’ ministry.
On Monday, childcare (ages infant-7 years old, or 2nd grade) will be at First Baptist Church, Upper Marlboro, 7415 SW Crain Highway, Upper Marlboro, Maryland, from 7:30 a.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Finally, I hope you will bring lay leaders with you. Our breakouts and sessions will equip them. I would like to encourage your members to remember Ephesians 4:11 – that they are to be equipped and faithful workers in their congregation’s ministry. We need the Lord! We need to gather together, humble ourselves, and call upon Him in our time of need.
