Dr. Jamie Caldwell Joins Send Network Staff

Dr. Jamie Caldwell, the lead pastor of South Shore Church (SSC) in Crownsville, Maryland, joined the SEND Network staff as a church planting catalyst for Maryland/Delaware.
“My job is to discover, develop, and deploy church planting teams. I am also going to be partnering with existing churches who are committed to multiplication and restoration in this region,” he explains.
Caldwell grew up in a pastor’s family and lived in West Virginia, Indiana, and North Carolina. His father, James Caldwell Sr., pastors Grace Community Church in Hickory Flat, Georgia, with the support of Jamie’s mother, Deana. “My parents love Jesus and the church, and they taught us from an early age to do the same,” he shares. Jamie is continuing the family heritage, as a sixth-generation pastor.
When Jamie was 18, God called him to ministry, though he admits that he had different plans. “I had always wanted to be a pilot. I started flying when I was 15, and when I graduated high school I enrolled as an aviation and flight management major at Jacksonville University. During my second semester, God made it clear to me that I was supposed to be a pastor. So, I canceled an upcoming flight, packed my bags, and withdrew from school.”
He began preaching almost immediately and began searching for a Christian college. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, a master’s degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Doctorate of Ministry from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
After attending Southwestern Seminary, Jamie moved to Maryland where he served as a student ministry pastor at Northwest Baptist Church in Reisterstown, before moving to the Glen Burnie area and serving as an executive pastor at North Arundel Church. In 2013, Caldwell planted Redemption Church in Arnold. Last year, Redemption merged with South Shore Baptist Church. Jamie continues to serve as a pastor of this congregation.
As a CPC, he will draw on his experience as a planter and as a pastor of a sending church. “At SSC we do five things: we worship together, we live in community, we see needs and meet needs, we develop and deploy leaders, and we make disciples. What excites me most about this new job as a CPC is that I get to take one of these things (developing and deploying leaders) and practice it on a larger scale. By God’s grace, our church was able to send out a church planter – Joey Nickerson at Citizens Church — and it was an amazing experience for us. So, I am excited to work with church planting teams and existing church pastors as they do the same exciting work of starting new churches.”
Jamie and his wife, Abby, have been married for 17 years and have an eleven-year-old son Lincoln. Abby is a photographer, singer, and artist. “There’s really not much she can’t do,” Jamie says proudly. In his spare time, Jamie enjoys spending time with Lincoln through reading, wrestling, boxing, and video games.
