We are so thankful to God for all He is doing throughout BCM/D churches! Below is just a sample of the various ministries, outreaches and events in Maryland/Delaware.
Food for Israel
Faith Church, Glen Burnie, has a Thanksgiving Eve tradition that has become so popular that folks outside of the church mark it on their calendars. Faith members, working with The Outreach Program (TOP), turn their gym into a volunteer-staffed processing center, for preparing meal supplies for thousands of families throughout the world.
This year the focus will be on Israel. The church will purchase, sort, package, and ship 30,000 meals to the country, currently in the midst of war. Volunteers work in shifts. Lead Pastor Tim Byer says it’s great to see grandparents working alongside their grandchildren (five and older) – generations working together to feed those in need.
The project is so popular that Byer says each year, people are waiting for the registration to open, and it’s usually filled very quickly. One of their biggest needs for the project is funding. Each meal costs $0.35, so the total cost is $10,5000. Those who want to help fund the project may give online at WelcomeTo.FAITH/give.
Colonial Baptist Church International Day
Colonial Baptist Church, Randallstown, will have an International Day on October 15. There will be an International Day worship service at 10:30 a.m. followed by a dinner at 1 p.m. All who have an international connection are welcome to dress in the country they would like to represent or in the colors of that country.
Youth and young adults will lead with a flag procession, and the senior choir will sing.
Surviving the Holidays
Several Maryland/Delaware churches are hosting “Surviving the Holidays” events in conjunction with GriefShare. Middle River Baptist Church will host their event from 7 to 9 p.m. on November 14 and Calvary Baptist Church, Bel Air, is hosting one from 10 a.m. to noon on November 4. Other BCM/D churches are hosting similar events, many online. Those who participate will get a booklet and there are refreshments at some events.
The sessions deal with holiday traditions, social events, and the sights, songs and smells that can trigger strong emotions. For more information about all of the events offered, visit the GriefShare site. Those planning to attend should visit the website or contact the church so adequate materials are available.
