This year the Southern Baptist Convention will be observing its first National Caring Well Sunday. At the 2022 Annual Meeting in Anaheim, Keith Myer, pastor and messenger from Harvest Baptist Church in Salisbury, MD and Chairman of the BCM/D Sexual Abuse Task Force, moved that a day be added to the annual calendar of events dedicated to raising awareness regarding the effects of and prevention of abuse, including sexual, physical, and spiritual abuse, that we might pray and work to eliminate all forms of abuse from our churches. That motion was adopted by the Southern Baptist Convention.
The first National Caring Well Sunday is September 24, 2023.
We have been impressed and encouraged by the attitude of dedication in our churches in addressing these issues. Recognizing and participating in Caring Well Sunday allows you the opportunity to open dialogue within your church to the need for further prevention and response plans, to reiterate the measures you already have in place, or to introduce new policies and procedures.
Here, you will find a helpful toolkit that we have created for you as you plan to recognize Caring Well Sunday at your church. The kit includes two sermons, a bulletin insert, a prayer guide, and social media images. We recommend reading the letter from Keith Myer first as it will give explanation to the items in the toolkit. We welcome any feedback, and suggestions you may have.
Together we can work to prevent abuse and care well for those who have experienced it.
