COLUMBIA, Md. — Three new staff members joined the BCM/D team on Jan. 1: Jeremy Dickson, Katie Matthews and Michelle Bausum. We’re so excited to welcome each of these individuals and looking forward to how God will use them to encourage, equip and resource our churches!

Jeremy Dickson serves as a church partnership missionary, establishing and fostering relationships with affiliated churches and pastors. Dickson says, “I am looking forward to being a source of prayer, support, and service to our pastors. My desire is for them to know that we love them, we appreciate them, and they are not alone in their service to God and his people.”

Prior to serving in his current role, Dickson, who also serves as the pastor of Freedom Church, Baltimore, was the Baltimore Baptist Association director of missions. He also helped plant and pastor Infinity Church alongside Aaron Pankey.

Jeremy is married to Dr. Christina Dickson, a pharmacist for the Veterans Administration in Baltimore, and the couple has four children: Brandon, Jasmine, Jayden, and Jaylen.

In his spare time, Jeremy enjoys visiting new malls, collecting vintage toys, assembling Lego sets and almost anything that has to do with water. “I love going to beaches, lakefronts, and even aquariums! I enjoy the mall atmosphere so much that I make it a point to visit the local mall whenever I go to a new city or town. I also really enjoy the different architectures and layouts of the various malls.” Jeremy also loves vacationing with his family. “Our favorite place to go is Orlando, Florida,” Jeremy said.

Katie Matthews (shown with her family in the feature photo) is the disability ministry missionary serving on the church partnership team. “God has already done many amazing things in the convention around disability inclusion. I’m grateful for our churches and staff, who have been welcoming families like mine for years! Serving alongside churches like Cresthill, Bayside, First Baptist Brunswick, North Valley, High Tide, and so many others is a privilege. As the disability ministry missionary, I am here to equip churches to reach those impacted by disability.

Prior to ministry, Katie was a special education teacher. “This is where my love for disability and the church began to take place. It breaks my heart to know that many families impacted by disability do not have a church to call home. It’s my personal mission to make sure that this isn’t true for BCM/D churches. Any person or family who is impacted by disability should be welcomed into the local church and Kingdom of God.’

Katie and her husband CJ, who serves as the lead pastor at Bethany Church, Columbia, have three children, Jade, 16, and Thomas, 15, and a baby who is with Jesus. In their spare time, Katie says the family loves time at the beach and pursuing new adventures. “In my free time, I like to catch up on laundry (I’m joking — mostly). I also enjoy coffee, being outdoors, and doing anything creative. I’ve recently taken up a new hobby — marksmanship!”

Michelle Bausum serves as a housekeeper at Skycroft Conference Center. She had previously worked at Skycroft from 2019-2022 and is now excited to be “back on the mountain,” working with people who are like family. She will assist in preparing lodges, motel rooms and conference areas to ensure a pleasant stay for guests.

Michelle and her husband, David, have been married for 30 years. They have two children, Jonathan and Julia, and one granddaughter, Reagan, as well as a Westie named Zack who “provides comic relief. You can‘t help but smile when he‘s around,” Michelle said.

In her spare time, Michelle loves to read and enjoys working with flowers in the yard.

Asked if she would like to share anything else, she replied, “I am learning that life can bring pain and heartache, but I know where my hope is found.” She quoted Psalm 62: 7-8, “In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. Trust in Him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before Him: God is a refuge for us. Selah” (KjV)
