It’s that time of year! Join us for the 2023 Youth Summit! This year we’re excited to host two of our favorite fellow state convention experts! Jay Barbier from Tennesse and Matt Flanagan from Kentucky will guide us through an evening of training, discussion, and networking.
 
Jay will be speaking about tending to your personal growth by following simple steps that can help change the course of every person and family to focus on discipleship. He’ll share what it looks like to have a personal or family altar to help lay the foundation of devotion, how discipling your own children or students happens when you walk with Jesus in your everyday life, and how accountability must be at the forefront of our lives through honesty and vulnerability. You will hear the heart of Jay as a husband, father, and minister!
 
Matt will be speaking on essential ministry strategies for middle and high school students to reverse the trend of young adults leaving the local church.
 
We’ll also have a panel Q&A after dinner! Make plans to bring anyone who works with students in your church for an evening of learning, discussion and networking!

Jay Barbier

Youth Specialist with the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board

Jay serves as the Youth Specialist with the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board. His desire is to help engage people with the gospel and the love of Jesus Christ.

Jay believes that the message of Jesus changes lives and provides hope. This means so much more to him because he is a cancer survivor. He has worked at churches in Louisiana, Tennessee and travels throughout the U.S. speaking and leading conferences. He leads Youth Summer Camps and YEC, Youth Evangelism Conference, for Tennessee Baptists. Jay holds a degree from Leavell College of the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He enjoys spending time with his wife Natalee, two children Caleb and Mary-Clare, and daughter-in-law Whitley. Jay also is an advocate for special needs, enjoys eating Cajun Cuisine, and traveling with his family.

Matt Flanagan

Matt Flanagan

Children & Student Ministry Consultant for the Kentucky Baptist Convention

Matt has served as the Children & Student Ministry Consultant for the Kentucky Baptist Convention (KBC) since 2018. He served in student and discipleship pastor positions at four churches for 27 years prior to joining the KBC. Matt is passionate about equipping and encouraging leaders in children and student ministries and helping churches reach and disciple the next generation. Matt graduated from Centre College with a BS in mathematics and physics and from Campbellsville University with a master’s in theology. He married his wife Felicia in 1997 and they are proud parents of Caleb and Eli. Matt’s family are members of Parkway Baptist Church in Bardstown where he previously served as Disciple Pastor and Student Pastor. Matt enjoys disc golf, camping, and talking sports.
