COLUMBIA, Md. — Demetra Bennett serves with the BCM/D church partnership team as the church partnership support specialist, providing a critical service, acting as a liaison between BCM/D missionaries and churches — and doing it all with an easy smile, calming voice, and helpful attitude. Her days include serving churches in multiple ways — administering financial grants, ministry resourcing, implementing safety protocol for volunteers, supporting BCM/D Ready, and event coordination.

“I came to the BCM/D in 2019 at the prompting of my biggest cheerleader and fan — my husband Marty Bennett! Together, we worked to plant Life Connection Church in Severn over 11 years ago through the consistent encouragement and support of the BCM/D,” said Demetra. “Marty learned of an open position which he thought I’d be a good fit for. I applied for the position and loved hearing about all the opportunities I would have to engage and support churches and pastors in similar ways in which we had been immensely blessed. I was sold on the position, and I have benefited greatly by being able to share in the work we engage in daily to fulfill the Great Commission in our convention.”

Reflecting on her decision to follow Christ, Demetra said, “My sweet mom led me to the Lord at an early age during a mommy/daughter walk to get a special treat of Italian Ice in our little neighborhood on Chicago’s west side. As she explained what the Kingdom of God was like and who Jesus was, I knew I wanted to be a part of what the Lord was doing. I said “yes” in my heart right then and there. Later I would later solidify my relationship with Christ in the years that followed.”

Regarding her home life, Demetra said, “My family is the heartbeat of who I am. Marty and I have been married for 27 years and are entering a new season of parenting as our children have entered into new phases of life. We have a daughter who is a junior in college, a son who is a University of Maryland graduate who recently moved away to begin a career, and a son who’s settled pretty solidly into his career here in Maryland and is beginning to train others. While this season is bittersweet for a mom, I am encouraged by the faithfulness of God as I watch each child, now adult, seeking to walk out their faith in the Lord. It is such a blessing!”

At Life Connection Church, Demetra fills multiple roles. “I serve in our local church as a praise team member, on the finance team, and on the hospitality team. There is lots of work to do, even at our small church. As a member of the LCC church family, I am just one who works alongside many others to serve in our church and local community.

She has a lot to do, but Demetra trusts God to keep her balanced. “When things get super crazy busy, as they sometimes do, I am reminded of the Lord’s example of including intentional rhythms of rest to my life. While it does not always play out perfectly for me, I am grateful that God’s mercies are new each day and that I can begin again in HIM.”

Church Partnership Team Leader Dan Hyun said, “Demetra is an absolute delight to work with. In my time serving with her, I’ve found her to be a person of the highest integrity. Not just in how she approaches her work but in all of who she is.”
