Adron Dozat Retires, Says Highlights Have Been the People and the Prayer Ministry

By Sharon Mager

Adron Dozat retired from the BCM/D on May 30 after serving 11 years, first as the facility manager and later adding the title of prayer missionary.

Discovering his artistic talents, communication leaders began utilizing his skills to design covers for BaptistLIFE magazine, which is no longer in publication. On his own time, Dozat, a member of Bethany Church in Columbia, began sharing Bible Time Fun Weekly, a biblically based children’s coloring and games printable booklet. Many churches began using this resource for children’s church, take-home papers, and more. Dozat even designed special editions for holidays and disability ministries.

Later, he felt God leading him to begin another church resource, THE PRAYER BANNER, offering weekly prayer prompts and encouragement. He said, “That was just a brainstorming idea God gave me one day, and I just hammered it out until it kind of worked into what it was. And I think it created a lot of opportunities for dialogue, raised awareness of prayer, and became a tool that a lot of churches are using. It was unspecified, so people used it on Sundays and in their Tuesday morning or Wednesday evening studies, and men’s groups used it. Some were just printing the pages that they needed. So, it was a very multipurpose tool.

“I was very pleased with how I’d go to the BCM/D meeting in November, and I’d have people who would turn to me and say, ‘Thank you, we are using THE PRAYER BANNER.’ One time, I sat at a table, and one person thanked me for THE PRAYER BANNER, and a person next to me said, ‘Thanks for the BIBLE TIME FUN WEEKLY.’ That was very encouraging.”

Asked highlights through the years, he shared the opportunities to encourage prayer. He referred to the prayer room he set up in the BCM/D’s former facility in Columbia. “The prayer room was a biggie. I remember many times thinking that was something we should have had. And I was blessed when the building was not being used to have more free time to spend there.”

Dozat said he was thankful to be able to pray for all the leaders and churches in the convention multiple times, more than he could count! “We also had a map of Baltimore, and I would pray for every community.” He said so many prayers were answered, and he’s thrilled with how God is working.

“The highlights were the people. I saw a lot of wonderful people come and go. What an honor! And then, in the last year, getting to know the directors of missions was a privilege. What a fine bunch of gifted, wonderful, Christ-like men they are.”

He acknowledged BCM/D Executive Director Tom Stolle for his humble faithfulness, continued support for staff, and affirmations.

Dozat says it feels strange not to be working with the BCM/D, but God assured him it was time to retire, and he’s enjoying spending more time with his wife, Carolyn.

He says he’ll still be around, serving at Bethany Church and attending BCM/D events, and he’ll be praying.

Adron has graciously offered to continue providing BIBLE TIME FUN WEEKLY to the BCM/D for inclusion in the weekly “In the Loop” newsletter. Subscribe here!
