Immanuel young adults head west for service and fellowship at Skycroft

MIDDLETOWN, Md. — Young adults from Immanuel Church in Salisbury spent a recent weekend at Skycroft Conference Center completing a mini-missions project that combined service, fellowship and a chance to enjoy South Mountain.

The team headed to Skycroft late last month to repair and improve the pool entrance area. Immanuel Pastor Andrew Morgan said, “They had a phenomenal time. It was a great weekend. Skycroft is always a wonderful place to get away.”

The project was led by Immanuel Church member Braedon Moyer, a young adult leader and a senior at Salisbury University. Moyer is no stranger to Skycroft. He first attended Crossings Youth Camp as a student in Bethany Church, Ellicott City’s youth group and later returned as a camp counselor. With those experiences in mind, he reached out to Skycroft Director Emily Reedy to organize the mission trip.

After completing their work around the pool area, the team enjoyed downtime to explore the grounds, rest, have fun and enjoy the usual abundant Skycroft meals.

An unexpected bonus came when they discovered that several churches from the  Arundel Baptist Association were hosting a young adult retreat the same weekend. Immanuel’s group was invited to attend worship services and teaching sessions led by BCM/D Director of Formation and Health Dan Hyun.

Morgan said the young adult group at Immanuel is steadily growing. “We have a good size, largely due to people like Braedon. Two were baptized this week, and in another couple of weeks, we’ll baptize another — all young men. It’s really exciting.”

The growth isn’t limited to young adults. “We’ve had a number of new folks,” Morgan said. “Over the next few weeks, we’ll welcome 11 new members, and for a church of 100, that’s exciting too!”

He said, “We’ve just been experiencing God’s kindness, which has been special.”
