“Who Stilleth the Noise of the Seas … ?”

By Gary Glanville

What draws us to the sea, the mountains, and the deserts? I believe it’s the quiet. Well, you say, “the ocean is not silent, with the waves crashing into the mainland.”

And if you have gone hunting in the woods, you know that once your entry noise settles down, the woods become alive with birds, squirrels, chipmunks, animals walking on the dry leaves, crows, and on and on.

The desert becomes alive with all types of birds. But those places do have a different kind of quiet and stillness.

The Bible says in Psalms 65:7, “Who stilleth the noise of the seas, the noise of the waves, and the tumult of the people?” When we are in such settings, those noises become music and allow us to think, meditate, and to experience peace and experience God.

How many reading this can say, “I identify with you, Gary. I’ve been to those places”?

Have you enjoyed the quiet of the beach, the mountains, and the forests tall, or the deserts of Arizona or California? Have you heard creation’s sound become music for your thoughts?

I sure hope you have.
