You can impact the world right here in Maryland and Delaware

By David Lee, BCM/D Executive Director

I have had a very productive day! I was part of sharing the Gospel to a village in the Amazon jungle. I helped to start a new church in a New England town where there is little evangelical witness. I was a partner in making it possible for a promising student called by God to secure his seminary training. I was also part of an effort to share Jesus on the University of Maryland campus where the majority of students do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. I helped to provide witness and discipling for internationals who had come to work in the hotels at Ocean City. I was part of a new church in Silver Spring that will make it possible for individuals for whom Christ died to hear the Gospel in their own heart language. I helped to encourage a pastor who was ready to throw in the towel. I made it possible for church leaders to take their ministries to a higher level by providing training and modeling for them.

And these things are only the beginning. I actually helped put nearly 5,000 missionaries on the field reaching out to nearly 800 people groups around the world resulting in more than 330,000 baptisms. I partnered in the planting of new churches in all 50 states in the U.S.A., the third largest unreached nation in the world. I helped our neighbors to the north in planting churches in Canada. I helped support the work of training for six Southern Baptist seminaries.

In Maryland and Delaware, I was a partner in placing missionaries on several college and university campuses including the U.S. Naval Academy where some of our nation’s leaders are trained. I helped to start 40 new churches in our multi-state region since Jan. 1, 2012, and may have become a part of a movement that will record the most church starts in one year in our history! There is so much more and so many more stories, but I am running out of words in this article.

How did I partner in all of this? What is my secret? I am a member of a church that believes in supporting missions through the Cooperative Program. A significant percentage of all my gifts to my church are forwarded through the Cooperative Program to support the mission of Maryland/Delaware Baptists regionally and Southern Baptists worldwide.

I still give to and want to be hands-on with certain ministries dear to my heart. Yet, I know from experience that churches giving through the Cooperative Program are the lifeline for making the Great Commission efforts of Southern Baptists and BCM/D Baptists some of the most productive and fruit-yielding of any evangelical group.
That reflects our mission as a state convention. We exist to intentionally assist in the starting and strengthening of congregations so that together we can accomplish the Great Commission as given to us by our Lord in Matthew 28:19-20 and Acts 1:8.

Your help and your partnership are needed.  Please join us.
