RED ALERT!  World Hunger Fund at 20 Year Low

"And the King will answer them, "I assure you; whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me."  Matthew 25.40

Hunger is no respecter of geography or ethnic group. It can be felt in an apartment in Eastern Europe, a cardboard shack in Central America, a tent in the Sahara, or a farmhouse in rural America.

Southern Baptist missionaries and volunteers are offering nourishment for the body and soul. And every Southern Baptist can have a part in those ministries through gifts to the Southern Baptist World Hunger Fund.

While Christ-followers are doing something about hunger in the U.S. and around the world, we could be doing a lot more. In fact, we can be assured that God expects us to do much more. He expects us to demonstrate an urgency to pray, to give, and to minister on behalf of those who are hungry--both physically and spiritually.

When will you get personal about hunger? If we take God's Word seriously, the malnourished and hungry are our problem. Those who are afflicted were made in the image of God. He cares about them, which means we are to care about their welfare as well.

What are you going to do about hunger?

  • 1.02 billion people do not have enough food to eat
  • 700 children die every hour from hunger related diseases
  • 49 million Americans struggle with hunger

By Susie Rain DADAAB, Kenya--The father-daughter duo stumble into the refugee camp in search of food, water and shelter after an eight-day walk through the desolate, dried-up African bush. Eerily thin, they hope to find relief from the worst famine to hit the Horn of Africa in 60 years.   It took Habiba Nuna and her father twice as long as the thousands of other refugees making the four-day trek from the border of Somalia to Dadaab, Kenya — the 40-year-old woman carried her elderly father t...

  • World Hunger travels to New Yorks lower east side

During the month of October Southern Baptist churches will collect a special offering to help feed the hungry among us. In this video, travel to New York’s Lower East Side with missionary Taylor Field and see how God used a simple hunger offering to repair a broken and wounded soul. • In India, villagers gardens yield hope

The young mother rushes out to Saachi Sarkar* as she walks up the jungle path to the village. The mother is all smiles as the two embrace.   "It's working," the mother says, excitedly pulling the older woman to the vegetable garden.

  • Philippines hunger project ‘boosts’ quality of life

PORO, Philippines --- In a bamboo home on the Filipino island of Poro, a coconut farmer’s wife holds a ginger leaf carefully over a spoon. She squeezes a few drops of juice onto the utensil while her 3-year-old son watches. The drops mix with juice from tamarind leaves, lemoncito leaves and lemon, forming an amber liquid the woman uses to treat her little boy’s cold.

  • Light of Hope shows beggar girls a life of freedom

BANGLADESH — Najia Khatun* knows what her life would be like without the Light of Hope Center. She knows she would be hungry. She knows she would be uneducated.

  • Hunger loses the battle in remote Thai village

BAN CAM, Thailand (BP)--As our motorcycle neared the wooden bridge, we heard the worrisome sound of rushing water.   Heavy rain had swollen the creek and made the path very muddy. Jaidee Yodsuwan,* my guide and driver, accelerated through the mud.
