Every person is born into a culture. The influence of one's culture is incredibly profound. It will determine how we perceive the world in which we live, shape our value system, and govern social behavior.
Even though our culture exerts tremendous influence on our lives, most of us are not consciously aware of it. We subconsciously assume that everyone else thinks and acts like us. It is only when we enter into a new cultural context that we experience just how different people can be. This is true on a spiritual level as well as a cultural level.
