“I remember one elderly lady who had lost everything but when we came to help she shared with us that watching us work, God had restored her hope. I have seen God work miracles through the Disaster Relief.”
Mako Kneal originally started out as a laundry unit volunteer. When deploying to Texas for Hurricane Isaac, the laundry unit had a day with no guests so Mako asked to go out with one of the recovery teams. While working in a flooded house, the team came upon a snake (not unusual in flood situations). Mako’s first job was diving for eels when she lived in Japan, so she is not afraid of snakes. She picked it up on a shovel and carried it over to show the rest of the (male) team who scrambled to get out of the way. Since then, she will still serve with the laundry trailer if needed but really prefers chainsaw & flood recovery.
