The BCM/D values the history that has shaped this convention from its earliest days to today. Nehemiah 9:38 says, “And because of all this, we make a sure covenant, and write it; and our princes, Levites, and priests set their seal unto it.” The History Committee of the BCM/D endeavors to seal unto it the historical records in writing of the churches in our convention so future believers will understand the impact historical events have had on their past, present, and future.
Continue the Path
History Alive provides believers inspiration to continue the path laid before them. In 1836, after the first meeting of the Maryland Baptist Union Association, a letter to the churches stated the reason for the organization: “ … it is not that we may have dominion over your faith, but be helpers of your joy. Our sincere desire is, that we may be one in purpose … united in a cordial and energetic cooperation for the advancement of his (Christ) blessed cause.” The letter goes on to state: “ … we wish to base all our plans and purpose, and exertions, on the simple truth of God, as revealed in the Bible, and on that alone.”
