The Refugee Highway - A spiritual harvest in Europe!
A spiritual harvest is ripening in Europe! Over one million refugees currently reside in Greece, a nation with a population of about 11 million. Many are from predominantly Muslim countries that do not allow freedom in worship. Far from their home country and often disappointed with an Islam that threatens and destroys, many of them are very open to the gospel.
Using Memory Cards
In July 2012 a group of believers travelled to Athens to help these refugees in word and deed. They worked together with local churches, distributing food and hygiene kits along with Christian literature and Bibles in different languages, as well as 2GB micro-SD cards for mobile phones.
These SD cards contained the Jesus film in six languages, an audio Bible and songs, as well as stories from people sharing how they met Jesus in a culturally relevant manner. Many refugees have mobile phones. This means they use headphones: suddenly they don’t have to worry about being seen by their countrymen to be reading a Bible. The mobile phone also continues with the refugees on their journey toward central Europe.
True rest and peace
Amir was a child when his parents fled with him to Iran. As a young man he had access to the Internet and started learning English in a chat room. Christians in this chat room told him about Jesus and prayed for him, which moved him deeply. After seeing “Refugee Child” stamped on his son’s birth certificate, Amir realized he had to find a permanent home where he could live in peace and freedom. On his way he stayed in Athens where he met Christians. He came to faith in Jesus there. Amir is one of many Muslim refugees who, on their journey, met the One who was Himself a refugee and who offers rest and peace in Him.
* Pray for the thousands of Muslims on the refugee highway. Cry out to God that they find true life. (John 14:6 — “I am the way, the truth and the life.”)
* Pray that Christians would offer love, respect and help to these refugees. (Matthew 25:35 — “… I was a stranger…”)
* Pray that those Muslim refugees who get to know Jesus can joyfully live out their faith and invite many other Muslims to live with Jesus. (John 13:35 — “… that you are my disciples …”)
