Against Restrictions - Let the doors open
In The Insanity of God, Nik Ripkin tells the story of Pramana, a Muslim-background believer.
Before coming to Christ, Pramana felt his life was in ruins. At the instruction of a local imam, he began to fast, seeking an answer to his problems. On the third day a voice spoke to him saying, “Find Jesus, find the gospel.” Being in a restrictive Muslim country, Pramana had never heard of Jesus. At this point, He didn’t know if Jesus might be a fruit, a rock or a tree. The voice continued giving him detailed instructions on how to find Jesus. Pramana walked all night to a city he’d never been to, following the voice’s directions. Pramana’s journey led him to the home of one of the only three believers in his people group of 24 million. This man shared the gospel with Pramana, and he became a follower of Christ that very day.
On the World Watch List, which rates countries by the intensity of persecution endured by Christians, Islamic countries represent nine of the top ten. Access to Jesus in several countries is nearly impossible.
Many Muslims didn’t reject the gospel, they simply never heard it.
The Bible says that “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved … And how can they believe in Him if they never heard of Him?” (Romans 10:13–14) Amazingly, the Holy Spirit is at work, reaching Muslims in miraculous ways just as he reached Pramana. But Muslims still need the freedom to be able to consider Jesus for themselves, and that includes access to the Bible and to living examples of Christian witness. The restrictions imposed by both Islamic governments and Islamic societies need to be lifted.
* Can you imagine having no access to Jesus? Can you imagine the millions of Muslims who will face eternity without ever hearing the Good News? Imagine and fall on your face, crying out to God for their access to Jesus.
* Pray for the doors of closed Muslim nations to open. Pray that government restrictions and societal pressures would ease. Pray for greater access to Bibles so that more Muslims would have the opportunity to read the Scriptures in their languages.
* Pray that God would continue to strengthen Christians in Muslim nations and enable them to remain in their home countries (Matthew 5:3–16).
